Ordering & Delivery
Our trees
- Are between 1.2 and 1.5m long.
- Trees over 1.5m long will be pruned to a bud-point to fit into the packaging.
- We grow our Trees in living soil our in the field not pots.
- This method allows the root systems to develop well, and better than they would if grown in pots.
- This means the trees are more resilient, hardy and less prone to disease.
- Trees grown this way, can only be lifted and despatched during the dormancy season, November-March.
- The trees would die if we did this any other time.
- Trees are sent as bareroot, with the roots soaked and protected in robust packaging.

When the trees arrive
- Unbox and inspect the trees. Please let us know immediately if there is any damage, ideally with photos too.
- The trees will be fine for 2 or 3 days in the packaging, but you don't want to the roots to dry out. Make sure to keep them in a cool, frost free place.
- Plant them out or if you aren't ready to do that you can “heel them” temporarily.
- To heel in a tree means to temporarily plant its roots in a trench of soil, compost, or sand to protect them from drying out and from frost until you can plant it permanently.
- Find a spot with well-drained soil and dig a trench deep enough to cover the roots. Lay the tree(s) in the trench at an angle, covering the roots completely with soil and firming it gently. Water the roots to keep them moist and prevent air pockets
- The sooner you plant the better to allow the roots as much time as possible to establish before the dormant season ends.
- Make sure you plant them out in their final destination by early-mid March before they come into leaf.
