Who are we

James and Clare

Ever since we met, 20 years ago, we talked about getting out of the city and onto the land. We lived and worked in Bristol involved in community growing projects.

James founded and ran a commercial veg box scheme for several years, and Clare ran a project teaching primary school children, in the inner city, how to grow food.

When our son came around, our journey out of the city began. We moved to West Wales, to set up a residential smallholding and Nursery.

We believe a transition to more ecological methods of horticulture and more localised food production plays a vital role in creating a sustainable and regenerative future for generations to come.

We are guided by the principles of organic & regenerative practise, permaculture and agro-foresty. And are dedicated to production methods that respect and work with the natural living world and support biodiversity.

We live and run our Nursery entirely off-grid on solar power.

We value Nature

Biodiverse ecology means more resilient food production

We farm in ways that support Nature’s biodiversity by creating habitat & food for a wide range of pollinators, natural predators, small mammals, birds etc.

We’ve planted 1000m new hedgerows, over 3500 new trees, and 100 new species of flowering plants, shrubs and herbal lays.

One of our favourite indicators is the wide range of parasitic wasps spotted in our market gardens.

Healthy soil means healthy food, people & planet

We manage our soils with natural fertility methods – manure, green waste, lime - by employing no-dig processes, applying mulches, and creating bio-rich habitat that supports the health of plants & the wider ecology.

Organic matters

We are certified by the Soil Association, upholding the highest organic standards in the UK that cover how food is grown, harvested, processed and supplied ready for consumption. That means no synthetic chemicals, no artificial fertilisers, no shortcuts. Instead, we rely on time-tested, ecology-rich methods that:

  • Build soil fertility naturally
  • Support pollinators and wildlife
  • Create resilience in the face of climate change
  • Respect human health

Organic is more than a label – it’s a whole system approach to sustaining the health of soils, ecosystems and people.  Learn more about organic farming here.
