Blackcurrant

Black Marble

Prized for its exceptionally large berries - sweet and mild flavour

More Info

Black Marble is a Lubera-bred blackcurrant prized for its exceptionally large berries, comparable in size to a big blueberry. Unlike traditional tart cassis varieties, its high sugar content and few seeds make it sweet enough to enjoy as a fresh snack fruit. The non-spiky branches also make picking easier than most currant varieties.

Key Features

  • Very large fruit — among the biggest blackcurrant berries available
  • Sweet, mild cassis flavour with a high sugar content and few seeds
  • Non-spiky branches, easier to harvest and maintain
  • Attractive green flowers loved by bees
  • Light green foliage held well into autumn

Fruiting & Harvest Time

Early ripening — one of the first Cassissima varieties ready, with fruit typically picked at the end of June.

Size of Shrub

Compact habit, reaching approximately 1–1.5m in height and spread, taking around 2–5 years to reach ultimate size.

Disease Resistance

High tolerance to powdery mildew and good resistance to downy mildew, helping the plant retain healthy foliage until autumn.
