Welsh Croen Mochyn (meaning “Pigskin”) is a highly russeted Welsh heritage apple from Anglesey.

It is valued for its excellent disease resistance, nutty flavour, and strong storage qualities.

Origins / Notes

Grown on Ynys Môn (Anglesey) since the 1850s and believed to be a naturally occurring sport of Egremont Russet. The distinctive russeted skin gives it durability and contributes to its resilience in orchard conditions.

Disease Resistance

One of the most disease-resistant apple varieties, with excellent overall field health and strong natural resilience.

Harvesting Season

Late season, typically October.

Storage

Keeps for at least 3 months in cold storage. Best eating window is from late autumn into winter as flavour deepens and develops a richer nutty character.
