Herefordshire Russet is a crisp, crunchy dessert apple with a sweet, nutty flavour and a rich aromatic character.

Often described as a russet with Cox-like qualities, it is highly regarded for its exceptional eating quality.

Origins / Notes

Raised in 1975 by Kent breeder Hugh Ermen from a pippin cross of Cox and Golden Delicious. It was selected for its excellent flavour and reliable cropping performance as a modern russet dessert apple.

Disease Resistance

Generally considered a healthy and reliable variety with good orchard performance in UK conditions.

Late season, typically October.

Storage

Keeps well for around 3 months in cold storage. Best eating window is from late autumn into winter, when texture remains crisp and flavour develops a richer nutty sweetness.
