Pig y Glomen, meaning “Pigeon’s Beak” in Welsh, is a traditional Welsh cooking apple valued for its excellent flavour and distinctive fruit shape.

It produces flavoursome cooked dishes with little need for added sugar.

Origins / Notes

The variety is thought to originate from Pembrokeshire, although it has also been found growing in Denbighshire and on Anglesey. Its Welsh name refers to the distinctive raised area near the stalk, giving the fruit the appearance of a bird's beak.

Disease Resistance

Generally regarded as a hardy traditional Welsh orchard variety with good field resilience.

Late season, typically October.

Storage

Moderate to good keeping qualities. Best cooking window extends from harvest through winter, with flavour remaining strong and well balanced in storage.
