Sunset is one of the finest Cox-style dessert apples, producing crisp, juicy fruit with a rich aromatic flavour very similar to Cox's Orange Pippin, but on a tree that is considerably easier to grow and more reliable in a wider range of conditions.

Origins / Notes

Raised in around 1918 by G.C. Addy at Ightham, Kent, from a seed of Cox's Orange Pippin. The pollen parent is unknown. Named in 1933, Sunset received the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit in 1960 and remains one of the most popular alternatives to Cox's Orange Pippin.

Storage

Stores for around 1 month in cold storage. Best eaten from harvest through late autumn while retaining its crisp texture and aromatic Cox-like flavour
