Ribston Pippin is one of Britain's finest historic dessert apples, producing richly aromatic fruit with a distinctive pear-like fragrance.

It is highly regarded for fresh eating - is primarily a dessert apples and is also excellent for pies, juice, and cider making.

Origins / Notes

Raised at Ribston Hall in Yorkshire from seeds sent from France in the early 1700s. Ribston Pippin became one of the most influential English dessert apples and is considered an ancestor of several later varieties, including Cox's Orange Pippin.

Disease Resistance

tough, heritage dessert with good scab resistance

best grown in loamy soil.  Clay, chalky or sandy soil leaves it more susceptible to disease

Harvesting Season

Late season, typically September to October.

Storage

Does not store particularly well and is best enjoyed relatively soon after harvest. The ideal eating window is during autumn when its aromatic flavour and characteristic pear notes are at their peak.
