Description
Description
The Robinia Pseudoacacia / Black Locust is a beautiful, multi-purpose tree. We produce a named variety - the Nyírség.
Rapid growth, Nitrogen fixator tree that can grow up to 2m in their first year & reach up to 25m when mature - if growing conditions are ideal
It's flowers are edible, it is dense durable wood - both excellent as firewood and perfect to tool handles, fencing and construction without chemical treatment
The Nyírség variety has been bred in Hungary for improved forestry form, wind tolerance and rate of growth.
Young wood is thorny and prone to suckering.
Native to Eastern USA, and has now been naturalised in Europe, Africa and South America.
Other benefits:
Thrives on poor, degraded, or compacted soils where few others will grow. Once established, it’s remarkably hardy, and drought tolerant, surviving where many other trees can’t.
Its fragrant, white, pea-like blossoms are a magnet for bees, producing a highly prized acacia honey
Provides usable timber in a fraction of the time of many hardwoods. Burns hot and long, even when freshly cut (though better seasoned).
Dense foliage and sturdy growth make it good for protecting crops or livestock from wind.
