Severn Black is a rare and distinctive heritage apple found along the banks of the River Severn, traditionally used for both cooking and cider making.
It is notable for its striking red flesh, red skin, and even red bark, so perhaps should be called Severn Red.

Origins / Notes
Found growing along the banks of the River Severn, Severn Black is an old regional variety valued for its unique appearance and culinary qualities. Its unusual red pigmentation throughout the fruit and tree makes it one of the most distinctive apples in cultivation.

Generally regarded as a hardy traditional variety with good field resilience.

Late season, typically October.
Storage
Moderate keeping qualities. Best cooking and cider-making window extends from harvest through late autumn, when the fruit retains its characteristic sharp flavour and colour.
